The Dangers of Online Dating - Can That Person Really Be Trusted?

Online dating refers to a virtual community were many people can interact, make friends, and sometimes hope to find love. I have no doubt that the creators of the online dating concept had the best of intentions, but we really can't say the same for participants, and it is really up to you to protect yourself. Find out how!

Online dating statistics reveal that the 4 major things people lie about are their marital status, physical appearances, age and intentions. While the first 3 might never have an adverse effect on you, it is however important for you to establish the other person's intentions. A wrong interpretation of could put you in harms way.

So how can you determine when to start trusting someone you met online? Here are a few online dating guidelines:

1. Exercise due caution: Never release your personal details or address to someone you just met. If you. Trust your instincts. If the person seems creepy to you or you just don't feel right about that person, then you should avoid that person.

2. Monitor your conversation: Keep track of conversation, ask key questions, and note the answers you get, and then repeat your questions at random. Comparing the answers you get will give you an idea of the person's honesty level. Also note if the person uses abusive, improper, or seductive words, such words should serve as warning signs to you.

3. Do background information checks: If you are getting 'hooked' on a person, then you should consider carrying out checks on the person. There are many online companies that provide such services for a small fee.

4. Precautions for Physical Contact: Be careful with people who want to meet in person soon after you meet online. Be wary of people who try to pressure you into physical contact or to get your personal details without giving theirs. If you ever decide to have a physical date, then choose a public place or restaurant for your first set of meeting and take yourself home. If your first date was a sour experience then do not consent to a another.

I know these online dating guidelines may seem stringent sometimes, but never forget that your safety comes first. If that person is really meant for you then things would definitely work out.

Happy Dating
